This is the “Everybody Gets A Trophy” generation who grew up being told “Good job” every time they dirtied their diaper.

Let me play Devil’s Advocate here. I coached youth ice hockey for 31 years. I coached at all levels from Learn to Play up to and including high school. I was also a referee and held several board positions.
Ice hockey is a team sport. Every player has a defined job. It requires cooperation, communication and chemistry. Players EARN their “participation trophies”.
