The guy riding in the car is responsible.

There is no allowance for a car to be autonomously operated on a California road without someone who is a licensed driver being responsible.

The cop was playing nice because Google owns Mountain View now. He should have ticketed the “passenger”, who is in fact the operator. Just because you have cruise control doesn’t mean you don’t get a ticket.

Exactly. When I first saw the headline, I thought Google had violated the requirement to have a human in the car. As far as I know, no state allows driverless cars - nor should they.

well...this is where the law is behind the technology. The passenger is by no means “the operator”, no means of control. So I can’t agree.
