I guess they’ll have to offer higher wages. Then the workers they need will magically appear.

It hasn't happened to us in the IT field. H1B's are a necessary evil.

In any market, local conditions will sometimes differ from the national average - so, no, your personal experiences don’t trump this national data no matter how often you pretend otherwise. (What percentage of the national STEM labor force have you hired?)
