When PEOPLE heard that Al Gore is planning to stay up all night Friday with Duran Duran for a 24-hour telethon on the climate crisis, we couldn't resist asking the former Vice President: "So, are you, ahem, hungry like the wolf for action on climate change?"
"Is this a literary reference?" Gore asked.
Gently reminded that it is, actually, the British band's hit single from 1982, Gore â who counts among his personal friends the likes of Bono and Jon Bon Jovi â quickly recovered. And with a nod toward another hot artist taking part in the Nov. 13 and 14 global broadcast of 24 Hours of Reality and Live Earth that is meant to pressure global leaders to act, Gore countered to PEOPLE: "I'm hoping, in the words of Hozier, they'll take me to church."
But seriously, there's nothing funny about the urgency of the climate crisis, Gore said. And with the world's leaders gathering in Paris on Nov. 30 for the United Nations Conference on Climate Change, Gore was gathering forces of his own â star-studded ones â to press the case for immediate action on reducing pollution and investing in clean, renewable energy.

Is this an old article, say from the ‘Carter’ Administration,
around 1981? I could have sworn I read it before. Of course, maybe I wouldn’t have. As I recall, Al’s then-wife Tipper Gore was going toe to toe in the courtroom with Frank Zappa over a preponderance of smutty music.
When Duran Duran were filming their "Rio" video, their wardrobe person forgot to pack swimsuits for the video shoot so they had to wear their suits on the sailboat.
Which made the summer 82' hilarious as guys would wear those 80's suits while riding around the lake in speed boats thinking it was a fashion statement.
WOW!
He actually said that!?
That, that is pretty far out, wild and just plain silly, even for Al Gore.
What’s worse, is he continued...
That trapped extra heat is causing epic downpours and floods, plus rising sea levels “so that in places like south Florida, high tides now put fish from the ocean into city streets,” says Gore.
For those who still deny that climate change is real and man-made pollution is to blame, Gore says the truth is winning out. “Every night on the television news is like a nature hike through the Book of Revelations,” Gore says. “So more and more, people are connecting the dots.”
[ “Man-made global warming pollution now traps as much extra heat energy in the atmosphere every day as would be released by 400,000 Hiroshima-class atomic bombs going off every 24 hours,” said Gore. ]
Gore could be right, however given how order of magnitudes work if it is several orders of magnitudes below the total amount of energy we actually get fromthe sun per 24 hours it would only account for a .001% increase even with the 400,000 Hiroshima bombs worth of energy per day if the figure that we get from the sun normally is some thing like 40,000,000,000 H-boms bs per 24 hours normally.
It is just a way of using data manipulation and scary thing mis-applied to cause sensationalism.
This is all a secret plan hatched by the sinister Union of the Snake.
South Park had the only reasonable take on Al Gore.
The Warm-mongers are clearly in violation.
Gore must be getting some powerful Viagra to pull an all nighter. That crazed ole sex poodle.
I was obsessed with Duran Duran when I was a teenager. When one of their videos would come on MTV my friends and I would become hysterical. Very disappointed & disgusted by this.
