But I would first try to run System Restore and go back before the issue started, to save yourself a lot of headaches.

Also, I would definitely run virus and malware scans if things were being downloaded without you initiating it.

What he said, but also clear all cache in IE. Sometimes it's just a corrupted cookie. Still, even if either or both work, you take the advice to run a good virus scan too (malwarebytes is free at CNET, just decline the extra fluff that defaults to download with it).

Thank you. I’ve printed about 20 pages of help pages , and armed with all that I am going to safe mode start. Will let you know how I fare. Thanks again.
