For two decades after the Second World War, over half of all employees of the West German interior ministry were ex-Nazis, a new study shows.

The research, carried out by the Center for Contemporary Historical Studies with the blessing of the Interior Ministry, shows that the number of ex-Nazi party members in both the West and East German postwar administrations was much higher than previously thought.

In exact figures, an average of 54 percent of civil servants in the West German interior ministry were former Nazis, although at its high point between 1966 and 1961, two-thirds of all employees at the ministry had been Nazi party members during the war. ...

Well Duh. Anyone who knew how to do anything in Germany post WWII was an ex Nazi. During the early 1930s and 1940s, if you weren't a Nazi,

"Don't be stupid, be a smarty...come and join the Nazi Party."

The number of ex-members of Hitler’s personal militia, the SA, was also surprisingly high, the report found, reaching a peak of 45 percent in 1961. …
I am thinking of the saying “past is prologue” here.
It is our inflexible purpose to destroy German militarism and Nazism and to ensure that Germany will never again be able to disturb the peace of the world. We are determined to disarm and disband all German armed forces; break up for all time the German General Staff that has repeatedly contrived the resurgence of German militarism, remove or destroy all German military equipment; eliminate or control all German industry the that could be used for military production; bring all war criminals to just and swift punishment and exact reparation in kind for the destruction wrought by the Germans; wipe out the Nazi Party, Nazi laws, organizations and institutions, remove all Nazi and militarist influences from public office and from the cultural and economic life of the German people; and take in harmony such other measures in Germany as may be necessary to the future peace and safety of the world. It is not our purpose to destroy the people of Germany, but only when Nazism and militarism have been extirpated will there be hope for a decent life for Germans, and a place for them in the comity of nations.
The word “extirpated” has only one meaning.

Not true. Goddard kept his rocket research of the ‘30’s very close to his vest. The Germans had the same basic science knowledge, but pored the money and effort into it that the US didn’t. By 1945 the Germans had V2s, while the US at best had some experimental sounding rockets. We needed the Nazis.

I fear that the current foolishness of the German Government is likely going to rekindle German Militarism and very likely a resurgence of Nazi brownshirt types.

It is a dilemma that the likely outcome is going to be bad if the Muslims are allowed to take over the country, but it is also going to be bad if it triggers a massive wave of hate.

My personal opinion is that at this point, the Muslim take over is the worse consequence. Imagine German Muslims with a license to hate non-Muslims and the technology to make Nuke ICBMS.

“Nazis were evil. They infected many decent things around the world in the post war era.”

For sure. Nazis are still evil and remain so to this day. The democrat party is chock full of Nazis, racists, communists, Leninists, Stalinists and a bunch of brainless, 50 IQ millenial morons wearing Che T-shirts.

Apparently, it meant keeping the German civil service 2/3rds Nazi, because doing so achieved just the end result stated.

"Von Braun is a mixed bag, rockets would have happened about the same way with or without him."

That is your opinion, not a fact.

"And Goddard wasnt tainted."

Goddard was dead later that year.

The CDU in East Germany was in bed with the commies until Honecker was deposed.

Merkel was spokesman for the “Democratic Awakening” party (which ties in nicely with her agitprop history) before it merged into the CDU prior to reunification.

Von Braun had lots of experience running a large industrial high-tech R&D operation. Unfortunately, Goddard never got the chance.

Incorrect, the Germans were well versed on Goddard’s work.

“in 1963, von Braun, reflecting on the history of rocketry, said of Goddard: “His rockets ... may have been rather crude by present-day standards, but they blazed the trail and incorporated many features used in our most modern rockets and space vehicles”. He once recalled that “Goddard’s experiments in liquid fuel saved us years of work, and enabled us to perfect the V-2 years before it would have been possible.”

Three features developed by Goddard appeared in the V-2: (1) turbopumps were used to inject fuel into the combustion chamber; (2) gyroscopically controlled vanes in the nozzle stabilized the rocket until external vanes in the air could do so; and (3) excess alcohol was fed in around the combustion chamber walls, so that a blanket of evaporating gas protected the engine walls from the combustion heat.

Though not by plan, Goddard’s work on liquid-fueled rockets nevertheless played a part in bringing World War II to an earlier end. The Germans had been watching Goddard’s progress before the war and became convinced that large, liquid fuel rockets were feasible. General Dornberger, head of the V-2 project, used the idea that they were in a race with the U.S. and that Goddard had “disappeared” (to work with the Navy) to obtain high priority from Hitler.

Von Braun did very little actual engineering when he was here. We could and did do most of it without Nazis. I know it’s upsetting to many, but we had the best scientists in the world.
The Germans didn’t invent an A-bomb, a proximity fuse, a decent semi auto rifle, a jeep, etc.
And as for the V2, it was basically a toy. For the cost of the Manhattan project, they duplicated the grand total explosives delivered equivalent of TWO US 8th air force raids. And with less accuracy.
Even fuels, our hot rod fighters were running 150 octane by the end of the war, the Germans never exceeded 96.
The German fanclub hates it, but America was the science and engineering hotbed in those days.

Had a lot to do with freedom of thought and competition.

A dying FDR being led around by his nose by Stalin.

Yalta made World War II essentially meaningless. Britain and France went to war to save Poland, and Yalta sold the Poles into a different slavery.

Yes, ok, we were helpless without Von Braun. We were lucky to stack two bricks together. And all the American engineers were utterly stumped until Von Braun solved every problem for them. The Nazis were the only reason we could have nasa.

Happy?

Goddard invented half the things that Von Braun got famous for.

Yes, it laid the seeds for all that followed, and even for a great deal of what is happening now.

I wonder if this is part of the German governments attempts to paint anyone who disagrees with the muslim invasion as a Nazi.

Our first satellite was put up by a USN design that wasn’t a German project.
