**authorities confirmed for the first time that Fox Lake police Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz was shot with his own weapon. He was struck by two rounds, one that hit his ballistic vest with the force of a “sledgehammer” and another that pierced his upper chest, said Lake County Major Crimes Task Force Commander George Filenko.**

“The weapon could have been fired by Lt. Gliniewicz or he could have been in a close proximity of the weapon being fired,” Filenko said. He refused to provide any details on what the signs of the struggle were.

What adds to the confusion is that the county coroner was unable to rule the 52-year-old Gliniewicz’s death a homicide, suicide or an accident.

We’ll have to wait and see.

It makes me wonder: Did tests (they did check, right?) for GSR on the officer's hand come back positive? How many rounds had been fired from the weapon?

The former may be inconclusive if more rounds than the two which hit the officer had been fired, and may indicate that the officer had been overpowered, dragged/carried off (shedding gear on the way) and shot with his own weapon.

I would hope the investigators are ruling out all possibilities in this.
