After 40 years at the same job, he finally had enough and retired this past spring. He's a mere 62 years old.

Did the same thing ... retired at 62. After 44 years of the daily commute, could not take the stress anymore. So glad that Larry had an opportunity to "work" at the golf course, finally, doing something he enjoyed. I know one man who decided to retire. His coworkers threw him a party. Sadly, he dropped dead at the event and never drew even one SS check.

Advice for anyone else closing in on that age, retire now and enjoy some of the SS benefits before the government increases the retirement age to 75!

I think we all know of people like Larry and your friend. My pastor was one of them, worked 2 jobs until he turned 65, had a massive heart attack before he drew his first check. So it's not just cancer we've spent billions on a cure for, and only gotten a small way into treating it.

Lost my husband of 23 years at age 57, massive heart attack. Worked hard all his life from the time he could lift a rifle and put food on the table till the day he died.

Again Prayers and comfort for Larry and all who are going through this horrible diseases.
