You’re welcome. My mom used it for me when I was growing up and I started it when I first had kiddos and have continued for the grandchildren. Works real well for our family.
And I think that is why some B&M stores are starting to close on BF. No need when more and more people are going online for things.
I think in this day and age of bad employees, they are trying to keep their good ones, because the increased productivity and happiness of the employees makes the shopping experience better for their customers which means better sales all year long. One pissed off employee can cost years worth of sales.
I remember driving from Portland to Seattle in 1973 to go to REI, when the Seattle store was either the only one or the closest one (don’t recall which).
I got a Kelty backpack that I still use, and a pair of boots that are long gone.
I’ve heard people talk about it but I’ve never seen a Cabela’s in my life and I’ve been to 46 of the 50 states. Just looked it up and the nearest is two states away.
REI is 15 minutes down the road.
I like the idea something to read.
Too tight a budget here for wants and truly nobody needs anything. Too much stuff already. I do near to zero cost homemade gifts every year. For the extended family get together, it’ll be homemade jelly from free fruit so the sugar and jars have made this the most costly year but had to make use of all the fruit.
Froze a lot, ate a lot fresh, dehydrated a lot and canned a lot but couldn’t give any away fresh. What’s with people now days who won’t accept garden fresh fruits and vegetables? It’s organic (!) and fresher than the store but they act like you’re handing them a dead rat. No wonder the country is in such a mess.
I missed the FR boycott, but it doesn’t surprise me. REI is a pretty tree-huggery kind of store. I’m sure the politics are way left, but I really try not to think about it! I just do my browsing and shopping amongst the granola people. No biggie.
The nearest REI location to me is in Austin, right next to a Whole Foods (I love that store, too!). I’m pretty sure that mine was about the only vehicle in either store’s parking lot with a McCain/Palin sticker on it back then, and the only one with a “Nugent 2012” sticker on since Romney’s campaign.
I love to receive fresh food gifts for Christmas or anytime. Some of our clients give us huge baskets that are pre-packaged and quick and easy for them to order on-line. Wish they would just send me a blueberry plant or something like that. My clients have received trays of homemade goodies for so many years that they would howl loudly if I quit doing that. Just a whole lot of work in a very short time though and with grocery costs escalating I am going to have to cut back some this year.
Re the something to read. We have a couple of second hand book stores where I have been able to pick up lots of wonderful books that look new for a fraction of the cost. Re the something to wear. Last year I got all the guys a pair of red Santa socks which had the toes in them. Just $3 a pair and they all wore them for a group picture. Pretty funny. Another year I got each a pair of white tube socks and embroidered the word “Left” on one of them and “Right” on the other. Things don’t always have to be expensive. Home made is best but because I do make things for gifts I realize how much love and labor go in them. Lots of people don’t and don’t appreciate them.
You are right about the sticker. Don’t do Whole Foods because it’s too expensive. My son has a Subaru with a sticker that says “Not all Subaru owners are Liberals”. They took a trip to San Francisco last year and received some interesting comments on it. They do like REI. I tend to shop at Cabella’s.
Amen, amen!!!
Homemade IS the very best.
We had an abundant harvest of plums this year, thanks be to the Lord, and I’ll be giving away my Plum jams, along with homemade cookies, fudge and toffee.
I like your *shopping* style ;-)
Thanks. I try to make Christmas for the family fun and inexpensive. Sometimes it’s a real challenge though. Love plums. Glad God was good to you! His bounty is best.
That’s funny about your son’s Subaru sticker...oh yeah, I’ll BET it got some comments in S.F.!! (Another beautiful city, like Austin, that didn’t deserve to be ruined by the liberals who infested it!)
I like Cabella’s, too, but the nearest one to me is about another 30 minutes south of REI, which is already an hour’s drive from my house. I wish I could get to both of those stores (and Whole Foods) more often. Plus, The Container Store, which is in the same shopping center as REI and Whole Foods. Now THAT is my absolute favorite store in the world, lol. I have to make a day of it to go to that shopping center!! :)
I support the company making a decision without government interference and to celebrate a national holiday. I’m sure the employees appreciate this gesture.
Couple of years ago I decided I would no longer spend any money in Houston so if I have to drive there to buy something I will do without. We have a new Sprouts store near us now. Supposed to be like Whole Foods. First week they were open they had some fresh fruit and veggies on special sales but after that the prices shot up. Do my shopping at Kroger’s where I can use my 10% Senior discount. People at Sprouts laughed when I asked if they had a discount for seniors!
We are about to have a huge Costco open soon - already have a Sam’s. Just more traffic in our area. Makes me crabby.
The one store we don’t have is a Container Store. They have the neatest stuff and I used to spend hours in there, particularly looking at the wonderful wrapping paper at Christmas time. Oh well!
Thanks. I am glad to hear that your Kelty pack from 1973 still works. My Jansport pack from 1978 still works, too.
