Now that MLB has climbed into bed with the fantasy sports gambling sites I think they have lost the moral authority to ban Rose. If only he'd give them a cut MLB would welcome him back.

Well, there have been tons of debates about Pete Rose.

No question Pete would be in the Hall of Fame if not for his gambling.

But does everyone realize that even if baseball reinstated Pete Rose tomorrow, that the Hall of Fame voting is a completely separate procedure?

Considering how few hall of fame votes were given to Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Sammy Sosa, mark McGwire, I have doubts if Pete would be elected to the Hall of Fame, even if he were allowed back into baseball.

I wouldn’t be so sure of that.

Maybe...

He did corrupt the game though, in a way that may be worse than using steroids. Shoeless Joe did less. Gambling’s been the law for a long, long time in baseball. It’s a pretty bedrock principle.
