This is what happens when there is no Second Amendment.
Well they do have laws against unlawful search and seizure but they go out the window during a declared disaster.
Thousands of guns were illegally seized during Katrina,including some at gunpoint and by force and/or unlawful detention. The Second Amendment is worthless when the people sworn to uphold the Constitution choose to ignore it.
It's also what happens when there IS a second amendment (e.g. New Orleans) The only real deterrent is that the government goons doing the confiscating know if they go too far they're going to be going home in a body bag, and their bosses also fear that too. That's the real reason for gun control - disarm us so that we're helpless to resist tyranny.
And any of the polyannas who post on this forum under the "it can never happen here" assumption are not aware of human nature. Human nature here isn't any different from Pol Pot's Cambodia, Hitler's Germany, Stalin's Russia, etc. There are those who believe it's their destiny to control everyone else, and there are those who support them - look at the number of people supporting Bernie Sanders. Also those who believe that the police won't follow any unconstitutional order just need to look at history at the number of "Blue flu" incidents during recent gun confiscations Oh wait, there weren't any.
