In satellite imagery that I’ve seen, the eye wall appeared to have fairly rapidly become disorganized offshore before landfall, which is sort of odd. They’ll be spared from the most severe part of a hurricane.

I think it is making landfall in mountainous region. At least that is what a graphic I saw earlier suggested.

If that is the case, the eye wall will be ripped to shreds as soon as it gets anywhere near them.

The downside is heavy rains will cause landslides and mudslides.

Mountainous areas tend to do that to the eye
