Thinning the herd. Unfortunately, my wife would fall for one of these.
Mine did but we got the charges canceled, the computer cleaned and a re-training session held.
An acquaintance of mine fell for the Windows version. He insisted that the nice Indians he called (800#) were from Microsoft. I said no and explained how it works as I turned off remote desktop and turned as many rogue services as I could find. After that his computer has never worked right (random error messages, nonfunctional DVD, etc). Of course he blames me. Last time I went over I was unable to install new SW at all, so I am going to have to reinstall Windows. He forgot everything I taught him and accused me of screwing up the computer. That is probably correct, I probably turned off too many things (using Autoruns). Maybe next time he will actually send the $300 that the techs asked for and he won’t need my free services anymore, HA!
Is this something that doesnt require Admin privileges??
