I can see the point in this to a degree. There are several teachers at my kid’s school that teach. Up at the white board, talking, roaming while kids do their work, etc. They don’t use a desk much during class time. Obviously they use it for off periods to grade and store stuff.
Other, lousy teachers pass out a worksheet and tell the kids to work on it in groups. Then sit at their desks browsing on-line for clothes, etc. If the kids have a question? “Okay - then you can ask another group if you have to.”
Then the following day spend a few minutes going over what the kids did wrong on their worksheets, then hand out new worksheets on another topic.
They call it “exploration learning” or something.
Of course - I never thought of getting rid of the desks. Just the lousy teachers. (The principal didn’t like that idea either.)
