I think the GOPe does, which explains why they are always scared into caving into Progressive demands. They think that by giving up a little bit, incrementally, they can kick the can down the road a little further.
The Progressives are either oblivious, or think that they'll ultimately win. Actually some combination of both, probably - especially among the younger Occupy-types who see themselves as the vanguard of some new social order rather than useful-idiot cannon fodder whose purpose is to be expended to meet the demands of their own leadership.
