An Okmulgee County family turned to 2 Works for You for answers after their dog was shot and killed by a Morris police officer.

On September 27, Jeana was out of town and her kids were staying with family in Morris. Her dog, Leesie, was at a neighbor's home when something went terribly wrong.

Leesie had been locked inside the house. But, at some point, the front door was kicked in during a burglary attempt, ultimately letting Leesie loose. Later on, Leesie encountered a Morris police officer and was shot multiple times.
The owner's 14-year-old son found the dog’s bloody body in a ditch outside the neighbor's home.
Dylan Froehlich says "The owner of the house had her with a blanket covering her. And I picked her up and carried her to my grandma's house and buried her in the backyard."
Jeana says Leesie was left to die in the ditch and the officer never notified her of the shooting even though Leesie was wearing ID tags. She says her dog suffered at least five gun shot wounds.
She says tried to get answers from the Morris Police Chief for weeks but got nowhere.
"He wasn't showing any remorse or compassion at all, he said just call him [the city attorney]. He will talk to you about it. That never happened."
2 Works for You reporter Casey Roebuck reached out to the city attorney and received the officer's report and bodycam video of the shooting in a matter of hours.
According to the report, the officer says he was dispatched to the scene for an aggressive pit bull, but he never states whether or not Leesie was the animal he was called out for.
In the video, you see only a glimpse of Leesie in the officer's headlights. The barking sound gets closer, then Officer Matthew Stone is heard yelling, "Get back! Get back!" Seconds later a shot is heard.
The next 30 seconds of the audio is disturbing. You hear Leesie crying in pain amid seven additional guns shots. After the eighth shot is fired, she goes quiet.
In the report, the officer states that he fired the last three rounds to, "confirm the dog was no longer suffering from the wounds that were inflicted." The officer goes on to state that he was fearful for his safety.
His account does little to comfort Jeana and her family.
Dylan, 14, said "I think the cop shot her because she was a pit bull and they were scared of how she looked."
"I just miss her,” says Jeana. "She didn't deserve to be shot like that ... that many times."
Boy, that family sure didn’t take very good care of their dog.
The whole family leaves and the dog is locked up alone in a neighbors house? Bad.
Shooting dogs is just to remind us that we should be thankful they didn't shoot us. If they shoot my dog they had better not need those eight shots on the dog. They will need a few more.
Never, ever call the cops for anything.

Wagging a tail and barking are signs of aggression? You didn’t watch the video.
Perhaps someone in the other family was allergic to dogs or cynophobic. Perhsps they had enough on their plate that they didn’t want the kids and the dog.
But then, you’re not concerned about the dog; you don’t want focus on the officer who announces “I’m gonna shoot the dog” and then opens fire on a barking, tail wagging canine.
Yeah. That dog was just asking to be shot to death.
Would you leave your dog locked up in the neighbor’s house all alone?
Whoever called 911 wanted that.
My opinion just did a one-eighty.

So, apparently the dog had chased off the would-be burglars, and was shot by police while it was running loose outside the house.

If I don’t like my neighbor, I just call the police, tell them he has a gun and the police fist their foreheads, kick in his door and shoot my neighbor to death?
Like shooting this dog to death because the cop didn’t like her looks or because he’s a yellow POS, that’s something out of the book Nineteen Eighty-four.
Most of us would rather not live in a police state, Donna.
One day someone’s dog is going to be slaughtered in this way and the owner is going to hunt down and kill the cop in a way that will shock. I base this idea on some of the “animal lovers” I have encountered over the years whose (whether they realize it or not) closest emotional ties in this life are with their animals.
This is why when I read about cops getting shot in the face, I don't really care about the "leaves behind a grieving pregnant wife, a son, age 3 and daughter age 5" part that is always in the narrative. They are trained to be pit bulls. They don't have to be in that profession, they chose it.
Amen to that. Because if you live through it, you will regret it. This day and time, stay as far as possible from the police.
Have you finished praising the officer who announced he was going to shoot a barking, tail wagging dog? You’re awfully silent about condemning the criminal.
