Speaking to the rather “non-liberal” approach of “Naked City,” I also specifically recall one of the earlier half-hour episodes, in which a guy seems to just snap, and goes across the street and shoots and kills some innocent people in a store. Never uttering a word. Still on the loose, and still violent, he walks around town, as the police try to track him down.
But the ‘gist’ of it was that there was no explanation, no answer, as to why the guy cracked and went violent. He just did. And he had to be stopped and taken down, to protect society. The point of the writer was simply that there was no reasoning, no understanding. Just a burst of madness that no one who knew the guy predicted.
Later writers and the whole cultural-liberal zeitgeist would have felt compelled to construct some large psychological backstory to explain his actions. Even wallow in it. And at worst, would even try to deflect the blame towards society rather than the individual.
Similarly, there was a fairly early episode of “Gunsmoke” which had Matt and Chester actually ‘ambush’ a group of murderous marauders who’d been raiding farms and killing the occupants, including women and children. There was no gratuitous “you’re under arrest.” Matt and Chester just flat out killed them, while the baddies were out in the open, approaching. Didn’t give them a chance. The marauders were vicious killers, and Matt and Chester were outnumbered. Now, this was around 1957. That ‘ambush’ would not have flown by the time of the “Gunsmoke” episodes of the 1960s.

My spellcheck hacked that apart. It doesn’t like sellek nor wahlberg. Selleck was at one time a good enough actor to work this just a little. His hair has less grey than his son’s? His accent is Midwestern. Ditto Danny’s wife Erin works thevwgoevthing by being from whatever law school. She’s from mass
If you want it to be true to ny standards there your problem
I know ny families, as stated, who have some kids with an accent
They managed to work in a variety of themes within the context of the police carrying out their different functions from week to week - one had James Franciscus going undercover in a psychiatric hospital, and I guess in keeping with the attitudes of the day, each time he walked on to the psychiatric ward there was a bit of weird, otherworldly high pitched music to indicate the strangeness of the place - I worked in a psych hospital for twenty some years and never heard such - sort of glad.....
The Beverly Hillbillies, The Munsters, Adam 12, Green Acres, Bonanza, Red Skelton, & I’d add Carol Burnett. Carol Burnett’s outtakes like Ms Wiggins is hilarious but could never have been on regular TV LOL. Oh yeah Jack Benny Show definitely Conservative. Today’s shows I’d say Duck Dynasty, Yukon Men, Mountain Men all but one character, & Ice Road Truckers.
Sheesh, Gilmore Girls is about as liberal as you can get. Other than Luke, all the characters are uber libs
The show isn’t necessarily wanting to be true to NY standards - no one would watch.
Oh I know. You have a good point
Was just defending Donnie w He works with what he’s got
And I’m pissed.. Danny Reagan and Jackie Curatalo with her ski cap were the best cop team I think there ever was on weekly TV And wahlberg is better against a good actress/actor
Jackie Curatola
My Mother the Car?
My parents would disagree with Lassie. They hardly ever let us watch because: The plot was Timmy disobeying his parents, Lassie saves the day and his parents are SO grateful Timmy is ok, they forget all about his bad behavior.
Of course we wanted to watch it even MORE because we weren’t allowed. haha
Interesting take
Yes, Danny and Jackie Curatalo were a good team with Jackie good enough to take away some on the harshness from Danny.
I still think that Danny is an over the top thug style talker - often hard to understand and he doesn’t fit into is own TV family or the entire clan. Just bad casting.
Wahlberg would be much better if he’d just keep his mouth shut.
Iirc he had communist ties as well.
My father once said, in response to ‘let’s watch lassie’
‘Nah, it’s always the same, Lassie saving some clown drowning in the river’
Got both points across, it’s repetitive and boring, and heroism loses a lot when the hero is always chasing the unwise
His first girlfriend was a pharmacist, although I can’t remember her name on the show. She had previously played Betty on Father Knows Best.
Catfish you must be to the left of me because Waltons is so lefty I cannot stand watching it. It’s as fake as Keillor’s Lake Wobegone.
Spot on.
Rowe’s dirty jobs.
If there were inate references to FDR's agenda, I might of missed them. On the other hand if you think old fashion family values like honesty, honoring your parents and GOD are left wing then................
