“Just how many kids gave up a bag of candy for that UNICEF crap?”

They don’t “give up” candy; UNICEF is in addition to candy. I don’t see it much any more, but sometimes. Definitely not here in TN. More in CA. It was big years ago — maybe starting in the ‘60s. Not sure

Pretty sure it was the mid '60's because I remember my dad as a kid kidding me to give up bag of candy for the poor children in Africa. I still hear that hokey commercial...... "TRICK OR TREAT FOR UNICEF".

Needless to say, we didn't see any of that in Texas.

Yes.

I did it one year, one day for a few houses circa 1971. I remember the cardboard slot box we folded up to make that took the coins.
