Picking out the *perfect pumpkin* to carve was such a ritual...or when the kids were old enough....to grow their own. Good times. Good stuff! GREAT candy!

I was born again Aug 15, 1981

WITH that re-birth came a lot of new realities, one of which is spiritual discernment

It was THAT spiritual discernment that opened my mind to see .... there are reasons for things ....

NOTHING is happenstance (Rom 8:28 & 29)

And to whom much is given .... much is required

For every "I see nothing wrong with Hallowe'en" ,

I see the need to be saved

For you still look through sinful eyes

Yeah ... I AM a drag at parties.

OK, to each his own. I’ll scratch you off my party list.

I’m cheap....I save the condiment packets from In-N-Out, Taco Bell and Wendy’s; the way I do the wrist-action in bagging ‘em for the little darlings, they’re none the wiser until they take inventory later.

Me thinks that you are discounting the shear *JOY* of being a child.

[wasn't there a thread recently of the recounting of the simple things in life, that give us pleasure] There were few rules: study your Catechism on Weds. night, do well in school, respect your father and mother, take out the trash, mow the lawn, sit still during Fr. Murphy's sermon.

In those adventurous pre-teen years, I recall the freedoms we had, the *figuring it out for yourself* years, the good-natured competition to be the *best you could be* and the quest for candy, any way any how.

Sliding your hand under the sofa cushions for coins, after holiday guests left; geeze I rememeber fighting my brother for the seat where my *richest* [in our naive minds] uncle sat in hopes of a nickel find. EUREKA!

Then taking our change to buy a couple penny candy on the way to school, or wherever, Mr. McDonald's a tiny store in the front room of an elderly couple's house....Mary Jane's, jaw breakers, packs of baseball cards,Tootsie rolls.....

I try to not steal *JOY* from children. Simple pleasures. Pass it on.

Oh good Lord. What a bunch of shit. It’s kids playing dres-up and getting free candy. I have yet to see any Satanic rituals being practiced in my many neighborhoods.

I’m sure the elderly church ladies nod in approval at this nonsensical screed, though.

There is no reason for a Christian to celebrate dark pagan holidays.

What about Christmas? It was originally a pagan holiday as well.

I don’t care about the origins. If a kid wants to dress up in a costume and get some candy, then so what. We did it when i was a kid 100 years ago, and no one had a problem with it.
