The officer checked Dudleys license and criminal history during the stop. The computer had Dudleys license flagged with the warning use caution and indicated he was a Bandido, according to Johnstons letter,

A 13-year veteran with the Waco Fire Department was fired this week after he was arrested on a weapons charge in ***May*** and officials learned he is a member of the Bandidos motorcycle gang who was shot last year in a bar fight between rival biker groups.
Waco Fire Chief John Johnston fired or indefinitely suspended firefighter Bill Dudley for what the chief listed as a multitude of violations of state law and city policies, including unlawfully carrying a weapon while being a member of an outlaw gang.

unlawfully carrying a weapon while being a member of an outlaw gang.
??
Was that determined in a court, or deemed so by a bureaucrap?
It is one thing to unlawfully carry a weapon. (without concealed carry permit) It is quite another to base the illegality upon membership in an “outlaw gang”.
Headshake.
You have to read the article. The fire department evidently has rules against not reporting issues with the police. They also have a policy against having a lady friend call in sick for you when you are in jail.
OK, thanks.
I admit I did not go to the link.
This includes: "A person commits an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries on or about h is or her person a handgun in a motor vehicle or watercraft that is owned by the person or under the person's control at any time in which: ... (2) the person is: ... (C) a member of a criminal street gang, as defined by Section 71.01"
Riding a motorcycle while claiming injury time for a broken leg is also frowned upon.
Yup. There’s a name for that, assuming its true.
He was listing the reasons the man was fired, not what he was charged with. It most likely is a serious violation of department policy to be a member of an “outlaw gang”, whether you carry a weapon or not.
The department also took 5 months to reach a decision. That would indicate they lawyered this out for a while before making the decision.
I represent him on something that is completely unrelated to whats in that letter. I represent him on a misdemeanor gun charge, Dooley said. Other than that, I havent seen the letter and I dont know what it says. He is not facing any charges up here as far as being associated with a street gang.
Having read the article, I’m not sure he was actually a member of the Banditos.
“Dudley, contacted by phone, denied being a member of the Bandidos and said there are many items in Johnstons termination letter that he disputes.”
It does say he was in several incidents associated with Banditos members.
I don’t believe anything I hear from the Waco city government.
That said, I don’t think I would have anything to do with Dudley.
It is alleged he had been involved in all manner of assaults, arrests, and even a shootout over two years, and, he is listed on TLETS as a member of a DPS criminal gang....
One can only assume Waco doesn’t perform regular post employment backgrounds on employees, and simply trusts employees to accurately self-report? And in sensitive position with multiple daily contacts with the public, including children, elderly, wholly incapacitated persons, etc.
That’s just crazy. Assuming what is alleged is true.
Something doesn’t add up.
I look forward to no longer being a pledge and becoming a full patch FreeRepublic member.
Wow, imagine how much trouble he'd be in if a Prius driver turned to stare!!!
The cop must have feared for his life.
Forgot the sarc tag, lol
I wonder how many FedGov databases we all are on.
