Now Hillary and Obama can both throw first pitches and we can find out which one throws like a girl.

I think you already know the answer to that...

The New York Slimes is far from the best source on sports, and obviously most other things. Who wants to read about sports written by some pseudo-intellectual liberal. New York Post is much better on sports and other things.

I’ve lived in New York all of my life, and been a Mets fan throughout. I now live within a mile of CitiField. Not because of the Mets, just happened to work out that way in terms of finding an available apartment.

Murphy's HR snaps tie, puts Mets in NLCS

Daniel Murphy just hoped no one was watching. Murphy shocked the sleeping Dodgers by stealing an uncovered third base and went on to score the tying run. Two innings later, Murphy hit a go-ahead homer off Zack Greinke that led the New York Mets over Los Angeles 3-2 Thursday night and into an NL...

I think I made it to the 8th inning before falling asleep. The go-ahead Murphy homer was in the 6th, and I remember a couple of scoreless innings after that. Was really tired yesterday, being up nearly the entire night before and not getting any sleep during the day.

Mets? Sounds like a town in France. Go, Cubs!

The original name was supposed to be the NY Metropolitans, but was shortened to the Mets out of concern that that people would have difficulty spitting out the longer name after a few beers (or so this is what I have been told).

Well, RinaseaofDs....if I’m being honest, I’d have to admit that after my Mets, the Cubbies are my favorite team.

Why, I’m even enchanted by their stadium! I’ve been admiring that ivy-covered wall for 50 years, and I wept when they put in the lights for night games.

That said, though...while I will feel badly for the Cubs’ fanes (I really will), I have no problem at all rooting hard against the Cubs themselves.

This time. If they were playing ANYBODY else, I’d be cheering for them.

Let’s Go Mets!

Regards,

My, South Ozone Park to Shea Stadium IS quite a ride! Good for you for doing it, though. We were lucky to be within easy walking distance.

My Nana (God rest her soul) was a HUGE Met fan, and she would take us to day games on Wednesdays. That’s when you got the Senior Citizen discount, and could see a game for like a buck and a half.

Then we’d walk home and Nana would make us spiced ham and butter sandwiches. Finally, we’d go across Roosevelt Avenue to the ice cream parlor for a root beer float.

Such great memories...

Let’s Go Mets!
Regards,

PS: YES! Wright, Duda, and Cespedes MUST wake up those bats. I don’t think we can win without them doing so.

Daniel Murphy was spectacular last night — who the hell steals third on a WALK?? EPIC!

Mattingly as a player was fantastic, but he is as dumb as a box of hammers. The trend is for intelligent managers in MLB. Clubs are more interested in your GPA in college than your career batting average. It is no accident that two of the best, Girardi and Maddon, are graduates of Northwestern and Lafayette respectively.

It went exactly as I predicted, the Dodgers lack of a quality No. 3 pitcher in the rotation meant Kershaw and Grienke had to hold serve, each lost a game in the series and the rest is history.

New York or Los Angeles or Chicago?

Who really cares?

Yes.

Astonishingly dumb.

My two favorite teams in the NLCS? Oh noes!

Of course, this means that I get someone to root for regardless of who wins!

I may actually watch the World Series this year (I haven't done so for years).

Excellent illustration.

And it is possible, if not likely, that Mattingly will remain Dodger manager.

The Dodgers are always in contention because they spend LOTSA money on pitchers. THAT is where the game of baseball takes place; it’s the center.
The Giants didn’t do that. The Giants get hitters. Thus, they aren’t in contention the way the Dodgers always are.

Do they really still call ‘em the bums? Or are you just that old???

If you had LISTENED to the broadcasts you would have known that the word "bums" was spoken of in the historical context. But, then, you would have missed the opportunity to jibe at me.

Going to Wrigley is interesting. ‘Cozy confines’ defines it for the most part, but under the stands are all the concessions. The wind blows through there like you wouldn’t believe.

Anybody walking through would tell you that it is well past time for a renovation. The issue is doing it without destroying the legend of it. Idiots will want to put in boxes and all kinds of stuff - they’ll want to blow it up.

Fenway is similar. I was sitting back behind home plate under the upper deck and a light fixture fell on a fan.

Maybe Yankee Stadium needed a redo. I don’t know. It was fine to me. Shea? I don’t think so. It was definitely in pretty good shape. Fenway needs a redo, but its another park they have to respect when they do it.

I hate Boston, in all its forms. The worst thing about Boston is that they are as corrupt as Chicago, if not more so. If you are from there, the rules don’t apply. If you are not, they will hit you with every rule there is to screw you over.

In Detroit, Philly, and Chicago, corruption isn’t even a secret. It’s a given. In Boston, they pretend to be upstanding but are the polar opposite. And all of those colleges don’t add up to a hill of beans. You hear how a team of inmates beat Harvard’s debate team a couple of weeks back?

If that isn’t an indictment of the value of a college education, I don’t know what is.
