On the left. He always wore a plain black hat. He was recently shot in the thigh and the way he is standing indicates that it might still have been giving him pain. The house in background is rather ramshackle.

Billy was from New York City. This is a strange setting for a photo, never knew they played croquet out in the Wild West. It would be like seeing a photo of John Gotti playing Space Invaders in some arcade.

I like to play croquet. I could have played a game with Billy!

When I was a kid, all the kids on the block played croquet all the time.

I guess they don’t anymore.

I believe Bonney was part of the orphan train that sent impoverished children out west. Several of my family members in the early 20th were orphan train kids.

Americans play croquet.

For the time frame and being in the West that is a fairly decent home. It is larger than most were. Looks to be pretty middle class for where and when the picture was taken.
