Great line, but is not really part of the American vocabulary. There are many wonderful lines in countless movies, but this thread is about memorable and repeatable one line phrases that have become part of the American culture that most generations recognize. Still, you get an A for that memorable line in that movie.
That one was actually just a response to someone else’s quote. Besides, I’ve heard man comedians incorporate that line into their routines. I’ll agree that it is probably not as well known as the other famous lines from “Gone With the Wind”.
It’s still a good one! Use it all the time with the “birthin’ no babies” changed to fit the circumstance. “I don’t know nothin’ ‘bout no computer speak” Great movie. First time it was seen Clark Gable was in hospital, a soon to be new Dad. He never walked out of the building. I cried. He might have been a rogue, a reprobate but to a young teen, he was only a big star in a movie classic.
I use it all too frequently. I think it may be a cultural thing. My wife recognizes the line, and many from our age group.
It seems every generation has its movie icons and iconic lines, and depending on exposure alone, they carry over. Not so many would sit through Gone With the Wind given a splatter flick to watch nowadays. Not enough sex or explosions.
