This time of year is always bittersweet for me. I’m happy to have a rest from gardening, but know that by mid-December, I’m going to be longing for spring. :)

Picked up a bit over a half inch of rain, plus fog & heavy dew this week; zukes started giving us a few more. Also softened the ground enough to harvest the rest of the spuds. Should finally also be able to dig a planting hole for our 5-gallon apple tree.

We’ve had a “wild” watermelon in our community garden and it’s been producing but someone gets the melons. What they leave behind looks like the melon was pretty good. The cukes, squash and cabbage are doing very well, as are the garlic plants. There is one garden where the volunteer small tomatoes are growing everywhere, into someone elses garden and his black eyed peas are as tall as we’ve ever seen. He said they are hybrids.

I’m doing another “keyhole” garden but this one will be 20 feet long and about 3 feet wide. I’m using the same basic steps as we did with the round keyhole garden. We’ll see if works as well a n d maybe better.

Haven’t done much of anything because of this stormy week. The plants are doing well because of all the water. Summer plants are dying back and pulling up the dead stuff. The lettuce seeds, mustard seeds and peas are loving this weather.

It was another dry week in Central Missouri.

I got a bit of work done on the pond, but the bearing on the outboard end of Nanner’s steering cylinder shelled out Thursday evening, so I’m down until replacement parts arrive.

Transplanted the salad greens that I had started in flats to the dirt in the cold frame and hauled water to all of the far-flung orchard trees on Saturday.

The fall greens are rocking. Mrs. Augie has already started picking on the kale. The late tomatoes are making more than we can eat. Amazing for the first week of October.

Went fishing yesterday. Brought home enough crappie to make supper tonight.

I’d have preferred to spend the weekend moving dirt, but it wasn’t bad.

No, but they are even more spectacular. I went back to my posts as far as May of this year and found the one I was looking for. Saved them and now I see these. Wow that must be an awesome in person sight and smell. THANKS!!
