At Hamilton High School, a 16-year-old student was shot in the leg during an argument with another student over rap music. The victim's injury was not life-threatening.
February 8, 2008 Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Latina Williams, a 23-year-old nursing student at Louisiana Technical College in Baton Rouge, LA, killed two classmates and then herself in a second floor classroom. Karlyn LeBlanc, the aunt of one of the students who died, said she forgave the actions of Latina Williams and offered a statement, "Someone should have caught this before this tragedy happened. She was a victim herself."
February 11, 2008 Memphis, Tennessee
A 19-year-old high school senior student was shot in his school's gym by a 17-year-old high school sophomore student, following a feud that started off campus earlier in the week; after the shooting, the suspect hands his gun to a coach, saying, "It's over now."
February 12, 2008 Oxnard, California
Murder of Larry King: Brandon McInerney, 14, shot Lawrence "Larry" King, 15, in the head twice in the computer laboratory of E.O. Green Junior High School. McInerney was apprehended in a nearby neighborhood. King, who was homosexual, died two days later from his gunshot wounds. McInerney was initially charged with a hate crime, but that enhancement was later dropped. McInerney plead guily to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 21 years in prison.
February 14, 2008 DeKalb, Illinois
Northern Illinois University shooting: Steven Kazmierczak, 27, shot multiple people in a classroom of Northern Illinois University with a 12 gauge Remington Sportsman 48 shotgun, killing five and injuring 21. He then committed suicide. Kazmierczak was not a student at the university, but had attended it the years prior to the attack.
August 14, 2008 Federal Way, Washington
26-year-old Omero Mendez was sitting in his car parked on the Lakota Middle School campus to wait to pick up his girlfriend's son. There, he was confronted by 16-year-old Luis F. Cosgaya-Alvarez and two of his friends who were inside an SUV. Cosgaya-Alvarez flashed gang signs at Mendez, and then shot Mendez once in the head. Mendez later died of his injuries. Cosgaya-Alvarez was arrested a few days later in Seattle and was charged with murder.Cosgaya-Alvarez pleaded guilty to murder and weapon enhancements and was sentenced to 18 years in prison.
August 21, 2008 Knoxville, Tennessee
Central High School, 15-year-old Jamar Siler shoots and kills 15-year-old Ryan McDonald. In 2011, Siler receives 30 years in prison in a plea agreement.
October 16, 2008 Detroit, Michigan
Christopher Walker, 16, was killed, and three other teenagers were seriously wounded during a drive-by shooting at a primary school lawn adjacent to Henry Ford High School, where Walker and the other students were just dismissed from after classes ended. Three teenagers were arrested and charged in connection with the shooting.[320] William Morton, 15, the shooter, was sentenced to life without parole, and Devon Bell was sentenced to 42 years of prison.
October 26, 2008 Conway, Arkansas
2008 University of Central Arkansas shootings. A shooting took place on the campus of University of Central Arkansas, in Conway, outside the Arkansas Hall dormitory. Two studentsRyan Henderson, 18, and Chavares Block, 19were both fatally shot. A third person, a 19-year-old campus visitor, was shot and wounded in the leg.
November 13, 2008 Fort Lauderdale, Florida
15-year-old Amanda Collette was shot to death at a hallway floor at Dillard High School. The shooter, 15-year-old Teah Wimberly, was sentenced to 25 years to life on a first-degree murder charge.
Society was not disintegrating so fast and had not reached the current level on the downslope 7 years ago.

You have to include in the copy cat factor when comparing now to then. If we really wanted to stop these things we would force the media to stop naming the shooter and just call him ‘shithead’.
