So it WASN’T phlogiston???
You really should read the book before assuming too much. It’s a great read but still remains technical and believable. Very solid book and one of my new fave’s.
I have to admit the story is contaminated by the presence of Matt Damon. Which is probably not fair to the writer of the book.
There are some instances of foul language, but it’s not violent.
I haven’t read it... maybe not ever.
When I first saw the previews on TV, I was kinda excited. But then I saw him in whatever situation saying “Neil Armstrong, the hell with you” or whatever exactly.
Well, I can say this. The millennials really do write about space. Pretty well.
But we, the older generation, well, we DID it!
So bite me, GenXr’s, or whatever the hell you call yourself now!
I enjoyed the film but like an engineer found myself running the numbers rather that just watching LOL
Cha ching! We have technology.
Outside of the disco soundtrack I thought the movie was a success.
I would say, why do you climb the mountain?
What makes man start fires?
You want to shoot me into space in a freeking convertible?
LOL!
But it is not.
And Robinson Caruso on mars is still a classic.
Of course the disco music WAS part of the old desert island joke....
And in the end you gotta cheer Watney cruising in his modified rover beboppin to “hot stuff”
Pehaps one of the most striking aspects of the film for me was that that majority of actors in the film voted for a guy that killed NASA to pay for the gibsmedats
When the soundtrack finally rolled was Starman.
That’s some classic Issiac Cosmic Jive
Yes. And I can't tell if, in the movie, it ever uses that fact to Watney's advantage. I'm going to guess that it's inferred. He does a lot of work in an EVA suit and rarely breaks a sweat.
It didn't seem as overt as it usually does. Several times they say "the math is solid" and "the numbers work out", etc. All this happens decades in the future. So clearly, it was a triumph for Common Core Math!
