Suspect admits repeatedly running car over victim before dousing him and his vehicle in gasoline and lighting the fire
The Abu Dhabi Police (ADP) have arrested a Pakistani truck driver who is suspected of killing an investor of the same nationality in an act of revenge.
The suspect, whose brother was killed six years ago in Pakistan, alleged that the victim had hired someone to kill his brother following a dispute over a plot of land.
The details of the incident as narrated by Brigadier Dr. Rashid Mohammad Borshid, Head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, date back to earlier this month when the Operations Room received a report regarding a burning vehicle in Bani Yas.
Firefighting teams, ambulances, and police patrols were immediately dispatched to the scene, as the report also stated that a man near the vehicle was also on fire.
Initial investigations revealed that a sedan was completely burned except for its trunk, and a man had been found lying on the roadside a few meters away from the vehicle with burns that covered his entire body.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, and our preliminary investigations indicated foul play, he said.
Forensic reports later confirmed our initial suspicions.
The officers of the Abu Dhabi Police suspected that the incident was no accident, said Lt. Colonel Juma'a Al Kabi, Chief of Psychological Crimes Section at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Although he tried to destroy all of the evidence, the officers could tell that the incident was a deliberate one, he said as he mentioned that the suspect had also gone into hiding.
According to Lt. Colonel Al Kaabi, the suspect (MK, 38) was brought before the police and admitted to killing the victim (M.Sh, 67) in revenge for his brothers death in Pakistan.
He admitted that the victim was from his village and tribe, and that he would deliberately accompany the victim as he waited for an opportunity to kill him.
Lt. Colonel Al Kabi said that the suspect admitted to running over the victim when he had been trying to fix the front grille of his vehicle on the side of the road. The murder suspect also admitted to repeatedly running over the victim before dousing him and his vehicle in gasoline, and fled after lighting the fire.
“...and our initial investigations indicated foul play”
