“Ponytails are dangerous for men that actually have to work for a living.”

In the vast majority of occupations that is a myth which even 50-60 years ago in the days of the flattop was thoroughly refuted. American men managed to build this nation in the 17th, 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries despite wearing their hair long, whether in the trades, the military, or the halls of the legislatures. Short male hair for the purposes of emergency medical care in the military became more relevant as the modern weaponry inflicted more shrapnel wounds that could become infected with fragments of hair in the wounds.

What the hey is a "quiff"? Sounds like it belongs in the sentence "Real men don't quiff"!

"So basically it’s a man’s haircut from the WWII through late 1950’s era."

Many men from that era and before used a lot of pomade on their hair. "Brilliantine" was very popular as well as other hair oils/creams like Vitalis, Brylcreem, and a number of others.

I remember back in the sixties one of my older (in his seventies) cousins telling my brother and me to use cocoa butter to "train" our hair. He became a little upset when we started laughing because we thought he was kidding. But he was serious. We never did resort to cocoa butter.

True, that. I had a handful of hair yanked out by a lathe before we finished arguing. I easily coulda lost a big chunk of scalp, or head, or brain over that.

From then on, I made darn sure that it was put up tight.

The old guys didn't have power tools, either, like lathes or drill presses.

I'll keep mine put up if/when it ever grows back.

Sorry, that must have been written by a long haired hippy. After working in the machine shop industry for a couple of decades I can assure you that whoever wrote that paragraph is full of BS.

“Sorry, that must have been written by a long haired hippy.”

Wrong, and a rather stupid attempt to be dismissive and insulting.

“After working in the machine shop industry for a couple of decades I can assure you that whoever wrote that paragraph is full of BS.”

I wrote that paragraph. The only person who is what you described, “full of BS,” because you totally failed to comprehend or disregarded how the paragraph already noted there are some exceptions for the modern military and a limited number of other occupations. Of course there are occupations in today’s world who have adopted safety requirements requiring either short hair or long hair worn short under protective covers. There were such occupations centuries ago. However, you should note that European and American soldiers in the 18th Century and early 19th Century were required by law to wear there hair long in a queue. While men’s hairstyles have since changed for a variety of reasons, linking hair length to masculinity remains just as much a fool’s errand today as it was then. Trying to insultingly equate short hair with being necessarily the only mark of a real working man versus long hair could have gotten you killed in a duel in those days. Today, you can be dismissed as a boorish ignoramus by persisting in such idiocy.

So I guess you want to have a duel at 30 paces then?

Long hair belongs on women and not men, that is unless they are girly men that work feminine jobs. It is dangerous and unsanitary.

A woman was killed in a lathe accident at a local university a couple of years ago. Her ponytail got caught and it damned near tore her head off.

I worked around Swiss screw machines in my youth. After my first day I cut my hair back nice and short.

Mr. GG2 used to have a ponytail and an earring. Now he has gone with the military short short cut but still has the earring. He does like the long hair though so I keep it long.

“Long hair belongs on women and not men, that is unless they are girly men that work feminine jobs.”

Long hair serves a number of important biological functions for all humans. The lack of long hair to protect the body is a health problem.

The cultural attitude in Western culture that “”Long hair belongs on women and not men” originated in the Ancient world and was notoriously adopted by the Ancient Greeks among others, who practiced male homosexuality with special attention to short haired and beardless shaved males. The Greek male homosexuals idealized male homosexuality into the arts and statuary in the forms of these beardless shaved males with their hair cropped short. So, your comment and attitude towards long haired males reflects the same regard for male hair style as some 2,000 years of homosexual male preferences for short haired, brawny, shaven, and strongly masculine males; rather than the minority of homosexual males who prefer effeminate males with any hair length. Congratulations, you have expressed your exclusive preference and attitude towards male hair styles as the majority of male homosexuals attracted to very masculine men.

“It is dangerous and unsanitary.”

Only when living in combat trenches and in other circumstances where typhus, parasites, machinery grease, and industrial tools present a significant hazard and/or limit ordinary standards of cleanliness. may of the occupations which present such hazards are also occupations which include females. So, try again, so we can watch you dig your dirty minded hole of ignorance and stupidity even deeper.

Some exceptional occupations require short hair for safety purposes. The length of the hair does not necessarily indicate anything to do with masculinity or femininity until and unless it is expressly used for such purposes. as fashions change, so do the hairstyles and their usages.

Whoa.

8-O

I hope Floki gets a Blood Eagle for killing Aethelstan.

Awesome series.

I *do* dread the end, though.

Wonder if they’ll go historic and use serpents or go Hollywod and use wolves?
