You’d think that this “crisis” were real

It is real. The current generation in their twenties (i.e. the generation that will run things 20-40 years from now, is filled with insecure men and and angry women.

A mismatch in expectations

Because the men have been raised to believe that the woman they marry should be a drop dead gorgeous babe and the women have been raised to believe that prince charming will come along and sweep them off their feet. When someone feels as though they have been promised something their entire lives, it is difficult for that person to walk away from it.

When I used the term ‘Real’ I should have said “tangible”. The dearth of men after WW1 was ‘Real’ in that sense.

I get your point that ‘Expectations’ care also real. Except that they can be changed.
