Well maybe some of these women are looking in the wrong place. In a couple of years the first group of seafarers will finish a 30 month program offered by the American Maritime Officers union. They will have earned a US Coast Guard License, unlimited horse power, third assistant engineer. These engineer may work 30 days on 30 days off.
During their on time they will work 7 days a week and usually 10-12 hours a day. In their first year they will make about $75,000 (plus tax free room and board when working). Perhaps some of the women college graduates with degrees in art history should consider dating these young men (and the male college graduates with degrees in liberal arts should consider dating the young women who graduate from this program).
Now that sounds pretty cool. Wish I were 18 again (sigh).
Sounds great but I’m probably too old and out of shape.
I have always been attracted to men who are smart or smarter than I am. And I never cared about degrees because there are many types of ‘smart’and it is fun to be with someone who is smart in different ways than I am- say, gardening, in which I have a murderous thumb and kill anything I touch. Or a cowboy-I love horses but don’t know much about them. It is fun to be with someone like that as long as the foundation is the same i.e. be a Conservative etc. And these things require no degrees.
But now that I’m in my 50s, it is increasingly difficult to find men who want to ‘live’ life; most just don’t want to be alone, and you need much more than that to have a worthwhile relationship.
It’s tough out there!
/Call it a hunch, but I kind of doubt women in that program are that interested in guys with degrees in liberal arts.
