Why is this thread full of lame jokes? A man died. That’s funny?

Same thing happened where my wife works about 3 years ago. I keep 2 Epi-Pens in my golf bag.

I read the article and since the offending insects came out of hole the ground they are definitely not honey bees. I'd say they were yellow jackets. I once ran over a yellow jacket hole with my lawn mower and those things came piling out after me. Ouch!
Bees do not have hives in the ground.
I have five hives - above ground in wooden boxes - and have some familiarity with stings. Got stung twice this last weekend. My fault since I opened the hive without smoking first. My bees are more aggressive this year since I got some Russian bees who cross-bred with my laid back Italian bees.

They were probably yellow jackets, which are wasps.

I have had two life threatening ‘bee’ encounters. One was when I was exploring the caves on Saipan just after WWII ended. Crawling through some ground brush I really got swarmed. Buddies took me to the base hospital where I spent three days recuperating. The second time was after WWII when I was deer hunting in the Mendocino mountains. I had just branched off from my deer hunting buddy when I didn’t duck low enough to avoid bumping an unseen hive. I was covered with angry bees until we finally clear them. We immediately headed for home a couple of hundred miles away and before we got home I passed out. Lucky for me we lived only a couple of blocks from a hospital to where I was taken. I spent 3 days recovering in the hospital.
