Even in the 1980s, the UK Left was certain that Reagan was going to bring about a nuclear war. There are other bits of hysteria that never come up in discussions of “red scare paranoia”. The Left has their own kooky conspiracy phobias.

The most blatant example of this was the movie "Threads."

Funny thing was the Russians almost launched a mutually assured destruction attack on 9-26-1983 because of a faulty signal. The man who was supposed to launch the attack refused the order. They’ve since automated the launch (if sensors detect radiation) so the human factor has been removed.
