The arrival of Labor Day weekend means that another summer is in the history books. And its not just regular folks who are taking three days off; based on the paucity of new movies and TV shows available from now through Monday, Hollywood has effectively shut down as well. And what little fresh media exists out there like The Transporter Refueled and Hand of God sounds mostly bad. Given that, your finest entertainment option this weekend is one that elevates badness into an art form. Were talking, of course, about Mystery Science Theater 3000, the legendary comedy series that celebrated legendarily awful movies in the best way possible: by ripping them to shreds.
During its decade-long run, which commenced in 1988 on a local Minneapolis TV station before moving to the fledgling Comedy Channel (later Comedy Central) and the Sci Fi Channel, MST3K subjected its human and robotic stars to hundreds of terrible movies. The humans were creator Joel Hodgson and his eventual replacement, Mike Nelson, while the robots included Tom Servo and Crow T. Robot. They all lived alongside each other on the Satellite of Love, an orbiting spacecraft/prison where each week brought a new cinematic atrocity, boasting such titles as Eegah, The Wild World of Batwoman, and Hercules Against the Moon Men.

Hi-keeba!!!
Best tv show ever. BTW all the episodes are on You-tube if you don’t feel like dealing with the oddly timed commercials on Shout.
Oh, HELL yeah!
Still looking for anyone willing to sell me all seasons (except 2, 3 and 8) on DVD. I had a source, but lost his contact information.
I know they’re on YouTube, and I know Rhino sells their sets and collections, but would rather go with non-mixed sets.
Oh!
And.....
PACKERS!!
(From episode 810: The Giant Spider Invasion)
I'll never forget when I first stumbled onto that show. It was the 1980s and I remember thinking the station was having technical difficulties because people were talking over the movie and these weird looking heads were appearing on the bottom of the screen.
There is no better way to appreciate a "bad" movie when it is "riffed" by the MST3K crew. So many other bad movies out there that deserve the same treatment.
I know...but I believe on this labor day marathon Joel makes an appearance. He did last year. I was shocked he’d aged! Know what I mean?
Then again I expect him to do this when he’s 80 and has to walk out in with a cane!!!
First time I saw it I was just walking by the barracks on the 32nd Street Naval Station in San Diego and saw a Godzilla movie on TV.
Being a hugh fan of Godzilla, I went to watch.
Getting annoyed by those three always talking over the movie, I left.
I didn’t get that show back then.
Hopelessly addicted now, though!
Somehow never gotten around to seeing “The Wild World of Batwoman.” Although, I’ve seen almost every bit of vintage schlock out there, from the Ed Wood stuff to Arch Hall Jr. to Larry Buchanan’s Azalea films, to endless one-shot oddities like “Gun Girls” (1957) and “The Creeping Terror” (1964). Generally though, I’ve always watched such fare without the accompaniment of the MST gents.
I probably should binge-watch something, though. Anything to take me away and make me completely forget about the current vomit-inducing state of affairs in Obama’s degenerate Homo-America. With my stack of dvd’s here, I think I’ll start with “The Deadline” (1931), a Buck Jones western that I just got in the mail this week.
Any time I see a forklift, I can’t help but sing, “He tried to kill me with a forklift...”
Anybody know what network? Those Yahoo sites are un-navigatable.
Olé!
Haaa!! Episode 310: Fugitive Alien.
Space Mutiny is an absolute scream.
Jin Kada!
and
I just spent the last year watching every episode of MST3K I could give hold of. 95%+ of them.
I have started just randomly picking episodes now. I watched the first half of Fire Maidens of Outer Space at lunch on Saturday.
Next up: Teenagers from Outer Space with Torture! (The Torture guy, King Moody, was the first Ronald McDonald...and now you know)
ALSO, Please add me to the MST3K ping list
Do you haveN MST3K ping list?
If so, please add me?
no but we need to make one.....
I just pinged this one out because I know there are a lot here who love it and found this story.
who wants to make it???
