Trump suggested the couple drive to another county. He also said allow others in her office handle it.

According to this CNNN story (in about the 20th paragraph), Davis is a Democrat.

So, you're right, there may be some subterfuge going on here aimed at getting Republicans to go on record supporting an obvious homophobe.

Meanwhile, the SF Sheriff who broke the law by not reporting the guy who killed Katie Steinle to ICE a month before her murder continues to roam the streets free as a bird.

Those damn social issues keep popping up and getting in the way of working together with Democrats to things done. How can we show that we're the better stewards of the welfare state if these hicks keep making us react to this crap. I tell my media friends privately I'm embarrassed but publicly I'm keeping my head down until this passes. My wife is pro choice and her cousin gay and wants to marry her partner and somehow I have to navigate through that mess without any publicity since she expects me to attend her cousin's wedding.
I did get some good news though since I've followed the Speakers lead on every vote he has assured me that my bill to allow the automotive software company in my district to import more H-B1 visa workers should sail through both Houses with no problem and I've been awarded $500,000 in campaign cash by the Business for Comprehensive Immigration Labor Solutions pac for next year! I can get more air time to run my "Common sense conservative with home town values” commercials in key spots next year! Next term should improve my personal financials quite considerably!

I agree that Bunning is looking for a quick and easy way out here. But I don’t think he’s smart enough for any sort of patsy-type involvement let alone leadership role in something organized by the GOPe.

Reason is that the marriage licenses now being issued in Rowan County are invalid. Only the Clerk and county judges (in the Clerks abscence) can sign them. Deputy/Assistant Clerks can’t, whether under their own signatures or a facsimile copy of the clerk’s.

Bunning even said as much yesterday, saying it was up to the couple to take the risk of being married under an invalid license.

There’s no way this is ending. Bunning has actually made it a lot messier. The Clerk is now in a position where she can sue based on the fradulent issue and use of invalid documents.

I totally agree. Look at how many “GOP” just bow down to Supreme Court Lawlessness. They could’ve stopped the Supreme Court in its tracks long ago simply through non compliance. If a state can balk at federal drug laws and federal immigration law they most certainly balk at illegal federal rulings on marriage law.
