It is now legal for law enforcement in North Dakota to fly drones armed with everything from Tasers to tear gas thanks to a last-minute push by a pro-police lobbyist.
With all the concern over the militarization of police in the past year, no one noticed that the state became the first in the union to allow police to equip drones with less than lethal weapons. House Bill 1328 wasnt drafted that way, but then a lobbyist representing law enforcementtight with a booming drone industrygot his hands on it.
The bills stated intent was to require police to obtain a search warrant from a judge in order to use a drone to search for criminal evidence. In fact, the original draft of Rep. Rick Beckers bill would have banned all weapons on police drones.

More toys for the no-knock SWAT raid lobby.
Drones for thee but not for we.
Just wait, it’s coming.
The thundering march of totatitarian statism...
With all the raids at wrong addresses, what could go wrong?
We should pair this post with the one on shotgun shells for drones.
understand a legitimate purpose
(I love, yet I hate, you ask how can this be?
I know not, but feel the agony ... Gaius Valerius Catullus)
Drones fly faster than cars drive and a rapid response to an officer in trouble MIGHT save his life
admittedly ... I'm conflicted.
Merde!
I said the same thing in the thread about the man shooting down a drone supposedly filming his sunbathing daughter. Many on freerepublic were for banning drones. I had posters acting like I was crazy suggesting the citizens will need drones to maintain the balance of power and should not be banned or even regulated for that matter.
If the use was limited to situations such as you described. I just don’t have faith that it will.
Armed drones. What could possibly go wrong???
I agree ... I confessed my conflict.
People should be able to have drones, but they should also be able to shoot a drone spying on their property.
I’d be surprised they’ll let this “fly” in ND.
I missed that thread, I’m surprised that FReepers were for banning drone ownership.
Well, definitely not visiting North Dakota anytime soon.
So, we must now assume that ALL drones are locked & loaded.
We have the right to defend ourselves, others and our property.
Blow them out of the sky, or maybe get a modified laser and zap ‘em.
Either way they are now a “threat” and can be dealt with appropriately.
The whole article has lots of nifty nuggets therein...
