I’m on 7/64 and will be here for long time to come. That said, What MS is doing is what Apple did. Driving the market outside their direct control and with no cost to themselves and ultimately, profit for themselves. Econ 101..

They have X functionality and people want X. That functionality is restricted by another company’s bandwidth. So the customer will naturally want more bandwidth to use this functionality they paid for. This will drive cost down and bandwidth up which MS can then leverage further.

The customer forces change on ISPs in ways MS cannot. End result, MS wins.

It's what economists call commoditizing their compliments.

This is true in those very limited areas of the country that have real competition for broadband access. Not so much for the vast majority of us.

It will take many years if not over a decade or more to bring the grid even up to where it can fully handle MS now. But they aren't the only ones. The other day my cell phone wanted to do a 1GB upgrade. I was lucky I had Mobile Data disabled. Companies are pushing things beyond technology. Six months ago I could access my banks web site. Now the clowns running it have placed about 5MB worth of needless CRAP on the page where I can check my balance and as a result it times out before loading. Heck it's done it on my phone as well. All just assume everyone lives in high speed areas. It's not just residential users they ignore it's businesses as well.

MS has focused way too much attention on the ones who want large scale changes in their OS every release and has gotten far away from a functional and easy to use OS. W/10 is more of the same with MS assuming more control over a persons own data and computer use choices.

If AT&T's system can not handle the load most of the USA is screwed. Why? Because of the simple fact 90% of data no matter what the companies name is providing is dependent upon AT&T's carrier grid capabilities. Yes even Cable.
