Somewhere in the first half of 1962 was the actual peak, somewhere around the time Glenn orbited the earth. It was the apex of post WWII optimism in the United States.

Think about what follows: Cuban Missile Crisis, Kennedy assassination, Vietnam, Watergate, Oil Shock, Economic Malaise, Cocaine (yes, I know it was around earlier, I mean the boom), Iran Hostage Crisis, AIDS.

Then came Reagan, but I see that as a major uptick in a downward slide. An incredible uptick, but a short-term peak.

Then we get Bush I, Clinton not having sex with that woman Miss Lewinsky, Hillary, Bush II, 9/11, Legislative gridlock, the Republicrat Uniparty, and ultimately culminate with Obama (what a trough).

In the last half of 1962, the USC Trojans went undefeated to win the National Championship. Unfortunately, the LA Dodgers couldn't get past the Frisco Jints to win the NL Pennant.
