Back in the 60s, New Jersey had to rename its route 69 to route 31 because the signs were constantly being stolen.
The official story was that members of the class of 69 were stealing them, but there was more to it than that.

One story I heard is that class got out @ Cal Berkely @ 4pm. It took about 20 minutes to walk to the dorms to light up. Don’t know whether that’s true or not.
