A friend uses a herbal remedy called “Blood Pressure factors’... Oh and make sure you are resting for about 5 minutes before taking the BP readings. If your BP is running pretty high don’t mess around with it. It happened to me and I’m not a big guy so I take a low dose BP med.
Vitamin B3 (niacin) lowers BP for a short period after ingestion. Higher doses also cause a distinctive flush—like a sunburn—both in appearance and raised skin temperature due to the dilation of capillaries. Niacinamide is a sustained release form of niacin that does not cause flushing, but I am not sure that it has the same immediate effect on BP.
Overdosing on Niacinamide has been linked to liver damage. Regular niacin is not thought to be a overdose hazard, though one death has reportedly been attributed to niacin and the side effects can be severely uncomfortable—flushing, itching, dry skin, dizziness, and tachycardia (heart palpitations).
I agree with others that you shouldn’t try to fool your physician. If you have hypertension, the side effects of unknown medications can be dangerous. Trying to take something the night before is not safe, nor reasonable. You do not know how your body will react and dosages should be tailored over time for efficacy. Experimentation is more dangerous when you are both the tester and the test subject.
Make a hole in yourself somewhere.
If you are prone to high blood pressure, and aren’t taking care of it, you leave yourself open for a stroke, heart attack, aneurysm, etc. My sister rarely went to the doctor, and her blood pressure was always high when she did. She always put it off to “white coat syndrome.” She ended up with four aneurysms because her blood pressure was allowed to run rampant with no medication to control it. They ended up having to tie off the largest aneurysm. The other three they monitored. She actually died of lung cancer after having stopped smoking for five years, but aneurysms can be genetic according to her neurosurgeon. I’ve been on hypertension medication since I was 28. I’m 68 now.
If you are worried about lowering it, that probably is going to make it worse.
Turn off the TV and listen to something soothing on Pandora.
You’ll go to the Dr’s and be so stressed about getting there and the potential to have a high systolic/diastolic reading that you are going to sabotage yourself.
It will really help you to get to the appointment with time to spare,sit quietly,breath,steady and slowly and envision the numbers being as low as possible.

I know celery IS a great BP lower. Might think about making a tea of of
fresh ginger root, too - reputed to be fantastic for quick results.
On a side note, re: BP meds, I’ve been married twice,
and both of my M-I-L’s died 2 days after being prescribed
a new BP med - no, I don’t know the name and wish to hell I did.
Both of them bled out through the nose and mouth, while sleeping.
One was dx’d as “heart attack”, the other as “pnuemonia”.
Scares the crap outta me. Anyone ever heard of such a thing?

I’ve had high blood pressure ever since it was first measured as a teenager and my doctor said “oh my goodness!”....that was 45 years ago. I monitor it almost daily and watch the fluctuations from one set of readings to the next and have tried to come up with some common denominators as far as what affects it. It’s not all that easy but some of them are the same as what are already stated here. For example, I find that if I exercise long and vigorously the day before, my bp will be down substantially. Thus since I like to bike, I’d go out for a 50 to 100 mile bike run on a decent trail somewhere. The other thing is that simple brain activity affects it greatly. I’ve taken back to back bp readings on my home monitor and if I’m by myself somewhere with my brain completely in idle, I can drop my bp by 15 to 20 points... turn the tv on or have someone in the room trying to engage in a conversation, up it goes. This is why when people say “so what is your blood pressure?”, my response is usually “well what number do you want?” If I really wanted to optimize both the systolic and diastolic numbers when going to a doctor’s office, here is what I’d do.... 1. Go to bed early the night before and get up in plenty of time so that you don’t have to rush. 2. Take nothing in the morning that has any caffeine and eat only a very minimal breakfast. 3. Get to the doctor’s office with plenty of time to spare. 4. Walk slowly in and engage in as small talk as possible.....especially about politics and especially anything that involves the Clintons 5. Make sure that you have been seated in the office comfortably for at least 10 minutes before they take the reading. For that entire time, keep your feet flat on the floor.....minimize your eye movement to avoid any distractions. Just before they take the readings, ask if you can have a few minutes by yourself....close your eyes and breathe deeply and calmly. I know this is virtually impossible but DO NOT THINK ABOUT SEX IF AT ALL POSSIBLE..... I can increase my numbers by at least 15 to 20 points if I do everything else ‘right’ and then start daydreaming about sex. Do all the above plus some of the other ideas here and your numbers will be as low as possible.
And get yourself a home bp monitor so that you can experiment as I’ve outlined to see what does it for you.
Short of anti-hypertension drugs, you don`t have many options. You may try ZERO sodium and caffeine, coupled with sweat generating exercise and/or even a steam sauna,(stay hydrated) assuming you can safely handle it, but don`t go overboard.
Here’s something that works for me on-the-spot. Its temporary, not long term. Don’t know how safe it is or if it would work for others:
Take a very very deep breath. then puff up the lungs even more. and even a little more. Hold the breath. Now take your blood pressure with the lungs fully expanded.
I can get my pressure to drop 30 points this way. But it comes back up when I start breathing again.
I can adjust this. Taking a less-deep breath and holding it, my pressure drops only 10 points or so.
I think what is happening is that the lungs expand, and more circulating blood gets pooled in the lung circulation, resulting in an offload of pressure in the system, so the blood pressure reading comes down.
Of course, this defeats the point of recognizing and treating underlying hypertension if you are trying to dodge the issue at the doctor’s office.

A meditation trick.
Put your finger on your wrist and feel your pulse. Use your heartbeat for a clock. Breathe normally and see how many beats pass as you breathe in, how many beats pass when you breathe out. It should be close to the same number.
If youre breathing in and mentally counting 1...2...3...4... as you breathe in, and similarly breathe out for four beats, increase it to five. Its OK to breathe deeper. Try to breathe with your belly, focusing lower and lower until it feel like youre breathing with your prostate. But for now, see how it feels as your body adjusts to five beats. When it feels completely comfortable, increase it to six. Continue in this manner.
If you get the hang of this tonight, and practice it as you’re waiting to be called, this might relax you for those few extra points.
