"Ford is building a $2.5 billion plant in Mexico," he roared to a packed auditorium in Birch Run, Michigan, and 2,000 voices responded with lusty boos. "I

So instead Toyota builds the plant in Mexico?

While you’re at it Donald, don’t allow ANY major business to move outside of the USA. Let’s see how that works.

As a free marketeer I think you should be allowed to build wherever you want, but this will will resonate huge in MI and some of the other rust-belt states (OH has been slammed hard by GM’s pull out). Trump will absolutely tear off a significant portion of Dem voters with this kind of talk.

These are the kinds of issues that will get Trump independent and Democrat votes. Some will say he is just grandstanding but again he is the one bringing the issue of American jobs to the forefront. The Clinton/Bush/GOPe/Fox cabal and their minions cannot stand this.

Does Trump plan to nationalize the auto industry?

Why not?

Helps keep illegals in their own country and sticks it to the union selfish spoiled brats.

Get rid of unions. THEN we can complain about moving to other questions.

Oh, also get rid of MW. same thing. Also helps get rid of illegals.

Perot was right about that. Drive around the US and see the decimated towns. Having a President who will use the bully puplit and incentivize companies to stay here will be a boon to the USA.

But Ford? C’mon Don.

Trump In Michigan: I Will Not Allow Ford To Move To Mexico

I won't hold my breath for details as to how he thinks he can accomplish this.

I’m all for auto makers staying this side of the border, so is Trump going to offer subsidies to them to stay here and be competitive ?

Taxpayer on the hook or will unions let them be competitive?

Ford isn’t moving to Mexico. There are a whopping 4 Ford plants in Mexico vs 27 in the USA. The threat to move plants out of the USA comes up every time union contracts are negotiated. Its simply not terribly cost effective to move auto manufacturing very far from where they’re sold.

Trump is on the union side of the negotiating table and threats to punish business into compliance is a far left game.

There are 3 Ford plants in Canada, does he want to punish them too or would that irritate the CAW?

What Trump can do is to prevent America from buying so much imported goods, by making them more expensive by TAXING IMPORTS.

We need more revenue, and we need jobs back.

Tax imports. Big time.

That’s not how free enterprise works, that’s how command economies work.

A conservative would have said he would fight for the removal of the economic incentives that entice companies to move their operations out of the country.

A politician being able to veto a company’s business decision... does that sound like a free market to you?

This is so funny. A couple of things to note:

1. Michigan is not an early primary state.

2. Michigan is not a red state. Maybe purple on a good day. Not red.

Now why, oh why would DT do such a “crazy” thing? C’mon. Especially the TDS sufferers. Why would he do that?

I say let them build where they wish. The people can buy from another manufacturer if they disagree. They can write Ford and tell them why.
