At the end of that story the Sheriff says this:
“But Dorning also emphasized that Watson is innocent until found otherwise and talked about the challenges faced by his officers, of having to handle the mentally ill and drug addicted. “It’s the things other people do not want to face.”
He’s dealing with an out of control officer. A murder likely done by his officers. Death threats, beatings, witness intimidation and more; yet he says the above?
Thats one place to stay away from.
He’s dealing with an out of control County Sheriffs office. I don’t know but I would think the buck stops with the Sheriff.
This kinda stuff didn’t just start recently. It is a culture in many, not all, well maybe all Police forces.
When I was growing up it was well understood that if you gave an officer much grief you were subject to be beaten. Or worse.
I guess people just got tired of being run over by power hungry bullies. With a predictable outcome.
“But Dorning also emphasized that Watson is innocent until found otherwise”
What an idiot. He doesn’t even know the law.
You are PRESUMED innocent until proven guilty IN A COURT OF LAW.
I know. His excuses chilled me to the bone.
