They were unable to hack the Model S over the air.

They had to get physical access to the car and hack through an ethernet cable.

And they could control the motor and reduction gear only at 5 mph and lower.

A patch has already been issued and downloaded by many/most Model S owners.

No need to visit the dealership to have software downloaded like Fiat Chrysler.
