What do you do when you want something more and different than youre getting in your home country? For an increasing number of 60+ women, the answer is to move overseas.
According to the data we collected through our website, Best Places in the World to Retire, there can be a better life out there, if you are willing to uproot and reinvent yourself as an expat in Belize, Nicaragua or Panama.
In addition to the over 5,000 answers and 200 stories on our website, in early July, we released Expats: Expectations & Reality, the first in a series of studies reporting the results of a survey of expats, mainly from the U.S. and Canada and living in Panama, Belize and Nicaragua. For Sixty and Me, we broke out the results just for women, 45 and older (the closest age category we had).
The following are seven smart and reasonable aims these women happily pursued in these small Central American countries.

You're gonna be ignorant and an ass....really really really bad combination. The ex pats I talked to have ZILCH ZERO NADA to gain if I move to their country or not. Not a DAMNED thing. My God do you have an ugly attitude about something you know nothing about and care nothing about. Here's a question for you:
I can tell I’m over the target when I’m catching flak.
People should think twice before trusting these expat sales pitches.
There are plenty of cheap places to retire in America, and it while it’s not perfect, it’s still better than almost anywhere else in the world.
Once you start running where do you stop? Where do you draw the line?

WTF is an ex pat sales pitch? I mean, unless you’re selling real estate, WTF do you have to gain by talking about ex patriation?
You’re obviously an unhappy ignorant coot. You don’t know a damned thing about this world.
Hi husband
I think you’re right. When I lived abroad, I met folks who I thought were more “americanized” than a lot of Americans. The American dream is very much alive and well, although not always ilocated in the US.
Guns are one of the few freedoms its harder to find outside the US, but depending on the country, still possible. Funny thing is I sorely missed my gun freedoms when living abroad. But now that I’m in the US I rarely find any time to go to the range anyway.
LOL! Hmmmm...
But isn’t it nice to know you can go to the range whenever you like!?
There’s a farm outside town where I can go shooting with only a phone call to the landowner. But I hardly ever do since I’m more collector than shooter, but that’s another topic.
I’ve been stationed abroad & been deployed abroad, so being glad to be back in the good old U.S. of A. is an informed opinion, IMO.
These ex-pats may have been living a beatific life for decades, but there will come a day when promises that were made on an industrial scale over the course of generations will be broken on an industrial scale over the course of years or even months.
When that happens, it’s all going to be blamed on the “Merkins”, and vengeance will be extracted.
More flak.
Buyer beware for those who think the grass is greener on the other side.
You should probably check your premises. Most people who choose to live abroad that i’ve known are not running “from” anything, they’re running TO a better lifestyle; a lower cost of living, an interesting culture, better food, nicer climate, less political correctness, etc. Few if any become ex-pats because they plan on renouncing their citizenship or doing anything that overtly political. They simply want a better life as they define it.
Yes it is. And if it’s important to you, you can go shooting overseas as well. It just depends on the country and your tolerance for bureaucracy.
Belize...we have had an eye on Belize for about 5 years now. Formerly British Honduras. English speaking. Also a great place for stashing dollars (wealth). Great climate. etc etc etc...
I stand behind my premise 100% just as I stand by my country.
I see it the same as when a married man who’s wife gets ill and instead of standing by her he moves out takes up some young chick and leaves her to fend for herself.
You know how they use to say America love it or leave it? Well I say please leave it and never comeback if you aren’t willing to stand by it.
who’s selling anything you ignorant jack ass ignoramus?????
Answer that or STFU.
The article reads like a sales pitch.
Some of your posts read like a sales pitch.
And as Shakespeare is credited for saying “you protest too much.”
Damn straight.
and where are your friends living now?
Not trying to be a jackass here, just curious.
yes, it's very beautiful. But have you ever been there in the winter? It's bloody cold!
