What do you do when you want something more and different than youre getting in your home country? For an increasing number of 60+ women, the answer is to move overseas.
According to the data we collected through our website, Best Places in the World to Retire, there can be a better life out there, if you are willing to uproot and reinvent yourself as an expat in Belize, Nicaragua or Panama.
In addition to the over 5,000 answers and 200 stories on our website, in early July, we released Expats: Expectations & Reality, the first in a series of studies reporting the results of a survey of expats, mainly from the U.S. and Canada and living in Panama, Belize and Nicaragua. For Sixty and Me, we broke out the results just for women, 45 and older (the closest age category we had).
The following are seven smart and reasonable aims these women happily pursued in these small Central American countries.

I couldn't agree more.
And excellent analogy using the ill wife comparison, by the way.
I'm not saying that all expatriates are John Edwards types. Many are smply seeking a laid-back lifestyle on some blue bayou with buckets of margaritas and coconut oil tanned senoritas. I could enjoy a few months out of the year of that for myself. I will say that those who choose cut and run rather than fighting to restore America to her former glory are belly slithering cowards who couldn't fend for themselves in SHTF situation anyway. So let them run.
North Carolina.
I call BS on that, because there ARE no small southern states. SC is the smallest I can think of, and it isn't that small really. Ms. MP and I are thinking of retiring to the south, and always looking for more info, so please share more about your spot. You can FReepmail if you prefer. Thanks!
Interesting topic lulu16...thanks for sharing.
Actually, it’s YOU who came on here and are protesting too much. YOU are the outlier, the protester. Damn, love to embarrass fools. It’s a flaw of mine.
Now the problem with calling my posts a sales pitch is I have nothing to sell here....there is nothing in it for me. I know a selfish SOB like yourself has probably never experienced what it’s like to simply add something to a discussion without something in it for you - I get that about you - but people like myself simply enjoy the exchange of ideas. And in this case, it’s an idea that I’m fairly well versed in.
Like I said, you can’t understand that. I feel sorry for you.
your entire case is based on a cliche. That’s mental weakness. That’s a lack of cognitive ability.
You’re a cliche. You’re an angry old man who quit learning anything 40 years ago, and you still want to butt in where you are not involved nor informed. That is not flak. That is truth. You are not catching flak. You are being taken apart intellectually.
But you’re not smart enough to realize it.
There are very affordable places to retire in the US.
People should think twice before falling for these expat sales scams. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
Now you're into straw arguments and have continued your lies. There is no sales going on here. There is nothing to buy. There is no way to buy. You keep repeating that even though anyone with an IQ above room temperature can clearly tell there's no way it's a sales scam because there isn't a sales process even taking place. Now are their ex pat scams? I'm sure there are. There's scams for EVERYTHING. There's scams for "affordable living" in the US all over the damned place. Seems paranoia is among your list of psychoses.
And how arrogant of you to for whatever mental delusions you have in your tiny brain think people haven't "thought twice" is a window into your arrogantly ignorant mind. Every ex pat I've ever talked to thought two, three, four, five times. Almost all of them moved for a limited period of time to try it out without selling their homes in the US. Many of them tried 2,3,4 different places, different countries even. The idea that you are the only one who ever thinks twice about something or the only one who understands the concept of "greener grass" speaks so much to the volumes of your illiteracy on this subject.
I have literally never seen someone so interested in a topic yet so unlearned about it. Well, actually one other time. It's a mental disease. I pity you.
Lack of originality = low IQ
Relying solely on cliches = low IQ
Willful ignorance = low IQ.
Moonman62 = low IQ.
Thanks for letting me know that it’s a good idea to check out future expat postings to warn people about sales scams.
I had a very intelligent cousin - who had severe bipolar disease. He was a multi millionaire in the 70's, but has been destitute from the 80s through now - if he's still alive. He and I were close at one time...and I realized this man quit his learning in the 1970s. He never ever bothered to learn anything new after that. You remind me of someone in that pathetic state.
More flak and more motivation to make sure people don’t get suckered into expat “dreams.”
” Can live well for less.”
Until you can’t. Those Latin American countries aren’t known for their political stability. Sandinistas and all that.
The biggest problem would be the American dollar....and btw, there is more stability in certain Central American countries than you suspect. This is not a new industry. There’s been stability in Costa Rica in the past 30 years than we can look forward to here in the next 30 - THAT THE POINT.
Perhaps it's because the vast majority of American men, especially young white men of military age, are nothing more then sniveling, gutless thumb suckers that live with Mommy and Daddy and spend their whole day "texting" on their free phones.....
When it comes to work it seems they would prefer to sell burgers and chicken parts rather then be machinist, roofers and electricians.... Those jobs are are all done by people with balls called FOREIGNERS..!
But....if you give it a bit more thought....I guess it's really the previous generation fault (my fault I suppose).....for NOT standing up to the "Progressives" and fighting back.... We have lost our schools, our jobs and now we have lost our young folk and thereby our country to the commies....
Hmmmm.....I guess this was off subject....sorry for the rant.
Panama used to be the ex-pat destination until Noriega blew up. There is always going to be something. Belize is nice but it’s already been discovered.
I’ve heard good things about Costa Rica. The real question is whether they allow you to have guns.
