What animal lovers will hate about the new Dr. Seuss book
Los Angeles Times ^ | July 28, 2015 | Rene Lynch

The new Dr. Seuss book "What Pet Should I Get?" is about two children who go to a pet store to buy a pet.

That was a commonplace event back in the 1950s or early 1960s, when Dr. Seuss is believed to have written the long-lost book, but it's discouraged today. Which is why the new book comes with a remarkable addendum: A publisher's note urging children to walk on by the pet store and adopt from an animal shelter.

But animal rights activist Ingrid Newkirk, the founder of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, said it's not enough and expressed concerns that it could set back the movement to encourage shelters over pet shops. As it is, up to 4 million shelter animals are euthanized each year.

Rofl! I dare say the Cat in the Hat WAS a pedophile! What was he doing in there when their mother was out?

Now I’m starting to question Hop on Pop! And let’s not even get into the Foot Book. Perverted!

All the more reason you should listen.

I suspect this is his secret ‘disco desire’.

Lyrics sample:

Put your hands
In the air
Stick ‘em up
Like you don’t care
Face the wall
Count to ten
We mow you down
Reload again

Now, what’s not to love?

A *hamster* flashback for me ....when the kids were small we did the hamster/gerbil thing. Their favorite hamster, whom they named *Kissing Lady on a Bridge with a Moustache* had 22 babies. Thank goodness she ate most of them .... we couldn't find anyone who would take one in...b/c they already had their own hamster problem. This was in the days B4 the internet....even pet shops wouldn't take them for free.

Cedar shavings...expensive *Habitrails*...Oi! Not particularly pleasant memories.

Pet stores sell pets. That is why they are in business.

I own several tropical fish. I bought them at the pet store. Was I supposed to go to the Amazon river and trap them myself and bring them home to Ohio? Was I supposed to go to lake Victoria and get the Ciclids from the source.

I think it is better that I get them from a reputable pet store that buys them from breeders as apposed to poachers.

As for dogs. If you want a specific breed, I would have no idea where to go. I have no dogs and am not interested in owning one. To me the best dog is one that I do not live wit and doesn’t use my yard as a rest stop.

A rescue animal is great, but like single children to middle aged career women a pet is often the child they forgot to have when they where young, fertile and trying to crack the glass ceiling. So they just want what they want. That is often an exotic breed that is only available from pet stores or high end breeders who claim they are not puppy mills. How would they really know?

I am all but certain that the PETA rep is all for abortion from conception to 1 minute before birth. Their priorities are often out of whack.

According to PETA, you are not supposed to have animals at all. Any way they can work toward achieving that goal, they do.

PETA kills domestic pets. They disapprove of, among other things, the fact that pet food is made of other animals.

Science has shown time and again how very healthy it is to own a dog..how much happier and healthier dog owners are, in so many ways. Maybe cats too, I don’t know. The research on dogs as pets is overwhelming.

Stuff it Ingrid. Peta went to China and asked a man to skin a dog alive so they could make a film of it and pretend it always happens that way when it does not. They don’t care about animals at all .I hate Peta.
