The ducks, even the ducklings, are expendable. Thats the difficult message from the Minnesota State Patrol in response to a hair-raising video of cars swerving and slamming on the brakes on Interstate 35W to spare a line of ducks waddling across the highway. I watched that video and I cringed, said Patrol spokeswoman Lt. Tiffani Nielson. People should not stop on the freeway for ducks. Nielson knows her advice will not be popular with people who think the motorists did the right thing to avoid the birds. Its definitely a touchy subject
Its not very kind, but the risk of a crash is high, Nielson said. The video, captured by state DOT cameras along I-35W at Hwy. 10 in Mounds View, went viral Wednesday, since it showed a minor miracle of happenstance in which no birds or people were injured.

Barely. I never saw that kind of carnage before. We literally tied a leg in a knot. Shattered most of that deer.
I came across some apocalyptic carnage one morning moving east on I-10 out of Junction.
Dozens of dead deer all along the road.. apparently there had been
some mass suicide or something the night before.
Me, I already had full coolers and a couple of tacos and a full tank of gas.
Not my problem.
The loggers up in NY used to have some impressive Rorshoc (however you spell it) patterns on the radiator covers in the winter.
Had a Suburban loaded with six youngsters readying to pullout into a busy 4 lane. There was a red light with many cars waiting when 100 yards after the light a mother duck with 10 ducklings started crossing. The light turned green and the lines of traffic bustling to get home charged on the green light, Sparing the gruesome details the mom and one badly limping baby made it. Our six children had a wonderful view of the murderous mayhem.
If I can safely engage my brakes without drama, I’ll use my brakes to avoid hitting any wildlife I can. I don’t drive real fast on any road, and avoid the interstate every chance I have. Our backroads here are 55 mph speed limit. That’s fast enough for anybody.
Accelerate when Canadian geese are in the road. ;-D
F’ those ducks!
