Ok all my desktop(Gateway) died last week and it will be awhile before I will be able to get a replacement(we are looking a Dell Desktop), anyway we have an ASUS Laptop that will have to do for now and I am looking at either a Print Server for printing or getting a whole new wireless Printer, any suggestions/recommendations?

Just get a printer

The inkjets are inexpensive and easy to set up.

A print server would complicate your life.

One and done....

Of the list of printers that someone posted from PC magazine, I have an HP and a Brother that are both wireless.

The Brother, once set up, works well wirelessly. But if it is ever moved and has to be set up again it is very difficult. I have been able to move mine and set it up online again, but I have a very tech savvy friend who could not ever get it to go again and gave it away.

The HP that I have is older than the ones on the list, but in addition to being wireless it will also airprint. Airprint meaning you can print from your phone and iPad as well as from an actual laptop.

Epsons are easy to set up and I had one that airprinted but it kept jamming. I gave it to my son, he unjammed it and his family enjoys being able to print from iPad from anywhere in the house.

So if I were you, I would be sure to ask if it airprinted, stay away from Brother unless it is always staying in the same spot, and probably do not want to buy a Samsung. I had one that was able to go online after a struggle, then went offline, and I ended up just using it with a print cable.

W10 is the best of 7 and 8, its lighter hardware wise, and frankly its the last massive version updated. The final release is out already. Its self healing abilities are much improved. If your running really old hardware, you may be SOL, but I’ve got it on a 2010 Toshiba laptop. boot up time is amazing, and this system doesn’t have uefi. Have not tried to add an antivirus package yet, the tech preview was limited to ms windows defender. I need to figure out where the white list is (you have to ok programs to run, like PC matic). The only downside is the cost = free

personally I have 2 printers both wireless. Get a cheep black and white laser ($70-$120) and then get a good multifunction inkjet with as many color cartages as you can get. Mostly I’d stay away from HP, I’ve found their software a bit problematic, though the last one I’ve had experience with is in fact better. Don’t worry about the ink prices, google LD products and buy the house brand for 50-70% less. If you get a laser don’t forget to get an extra drum, to keep on hand. My drums last about 6 toners.

Perhaps: HP Officejet Pro 8620 e-All-In-One Printer, Scanner, Copier, Fax

(@ OfficeDepot/OfficeMax - they used to price-match, and we got the previous model - the 8600 e for the same price Costco listed - saved about $70.00)

Listing for under $300 (we paid $220 three years ago)

Wireless setup was a breeze - all my devices (3 Linux computers, 5 Windows computers, Android smart phone) hooked up instantly - no muss/no fuss.

Ink is not the cheapest, and it is not easy to recycle the cartridges because the printer keeps a rolling list of the last four sets of cartridge serial numbers, so if you load your own ink, you will need five sets of cartridges. Other than that, it is a workhorse and runs without a hitch.

Good luck!
