Basically, a Zuni rocket on another plane spontaneously fired off (a known problem), piercing a fuel tank on another plane, spilling and igniting jet fuel (think kerosene) on its way into the sea.

McCain, in his hurried egress, more than likely dropped a bomb from his plane in his panic from the fire and the explosives/fuel he was sitting on top of.

That bomb eventually went off from being in the fire, setting off the other explosions, killing the firefighters.

McCain didn't bother to help either fight the fire along with those also untrained in firefighting, or those scrambling to try to rescue any survivors.

How many other pilots helped with the fire suppression? Would the 1,000 lb. bomb not have cooked off if it had stayed attached to the plane? Did the other seven Composition B bombs cook off because they were dropped from their planes?
