Earlier this month, we got 10-12" in 24 hours. Washed out US Hwy 371 and about 20 county roads in our county alone. State hwy was closed in front of our house.

The ground here is hard pan...takes a long time for it to soak up the water...

IOW, flash flooding is the norm even with a couple of tenths of an inch of rain in a short amount of time...

Not discounting the burned areas of hillsides and mountains that have no vegetation to prevent mudslides...

It may be a joke to folks back East or in the NW, but in the desert areas like NV, AZ, NM, CA, etc., it can be a matter of life or death...
