The biggest problem our ideology faces is our leaders have been cowed by the media into being afraid to speak honestly.

If Trump stands up and speaks honestly and aggressively (whether he means it or not), he makes himself a test case. If we attack him, every RINO out there will say, “See, I made the smart move not speaking out. If you speak out republicans will not support you.” Liberals in the media will smile, and we will never hear any candidate speak simple truth again. Everything said will be said to please the liberals, and the low-info voters will think everyone is liberal, and they will vote liberal.

It is beyond my imagination Trump would step our aggressively on our issues, and we wouldn’t try to teach the mealy mouths in our own party that speaking truth is the way to win, not striving to please liberals.

If we turn on Trump, say hello to a future field of Mitt Romney’s, who try to please liberals with everything they say, and never say anything confrontational. Bush being like that is why we have Obama.

Look, I love Cruz, and deciding which of the two to go with is tough. But if I support Donald, and he wins, our next generation of republican candidate will try to win by being tough and confrontational. Once all the candidates are doing that we get the luxury of looking for the one who appears most solid.

As it stands now, if the contest becomes Trump’s, the mealy mouths lose and the establishment loses. I think we need that more than we need an ironclad, absolutely certain conservative for this one election.

That said, if Donald tries to appease liberals, then I am clear to vote Cruz, and we will still have sent a good message - “Look how good Trump did, and how he failed to win by trying to appease liberals.”

There should be no contest between Cruz and Trump...this is what disappoints me about so many on FR. They claim to be Conservatives...until the support someone who is not. Cruz is the one for me, but I’ll vote Trump against Hillary.

You are right to an extent, but the choice shouldn’t be hard. We aren’t turning on Trump simply by asking his supporters WHY they support someone who has, until recently, been a Democrat.
